Dr. Thomas P-0. Mauduit

Thomas in an expert in tectonics , structural geology and seismic interpretation. He has 3 decades experience in exploration in the Oil Industry. He has been an expert for many companies (Elf, Shell, E.On, Orion, Dana, K. Noc, EnQuest, Taqa, Noble Energy, Fairfield, StaatsOlie, Socar… ). He has been a researcher at Rennes 1 Univ. (France) and Vrije Univ. (Amsterdam) and in the industry (Head of the Shell Tectonics Lab). He is a seismic interpreter, a static model builder (Petrel, SMT Kingdom, Landmark, Paradigm…), a basin modeller (prospect scale, basin scale, lithospheric scale) a sedimentologist (carbonates and turbidites). He has worked in over 35 countries, on 40 basins and studied over 80 fields in details. Throughout his carreer he has been a a project manager, a team manager, a trainer, a coach and a teacher. Thomas is the founder and managing director of Tectonics Experts Ltd. since 2008. He is the founder and managing director of GAGE.

Dr. Sten Lou

Sten Lou has received a Msc in geology from the Univercity of Copenhagen in 1979 and has subsequently worked internationally in the oil industry (at Maersk, ConocoPhillips, Eni, Eon, Staatsolie and DPC-International GmbH) for fourtie years. Dr. Jurriaan Reijs

Jurriaan has 24-years of experience in the energy industry. He obtained a Ph.D. in Structural Geology from Royal Holloway University of London and an M.Sc. in Geology from Utrecht University. He worked in Shell in various businesses, ranging from research to field development and exploration, in technical, operational and managerial roles. In these roles, he worked in Egypt, Australia, the United States and the Netherlands in positions such as Principal Regional Geologist, Operated Assets Exploration Team Leader and Venture Manager. He drilled wildcat exploration wells in frontier basins, complex high-pressure and temperature wells and near-field exploration wells. He led regional studies, seismic acquisition campaigns and commercial equity acquisitions and dilutions. In his last role in Shell, he was Regional Exploration Advisor, where he was responsible for the technical assurance of exploration wells and investment decisions in South America, Africa & Middle East. Next to his deep energy and geoscience expertise, Jurriaan developed skills in Carbon Storage, Geothermal Energy and (Agile) Leadership. In 2021, Jurriaan decided to fully focus on the energy transition and left Shell to found Energility, a consultancy providing Carbon Storage and Geothermal advice and training.

Dr. Werner Schoeler

Werner had been both a Geophysicist and an Exploration Manager for over 40 years. He has experience in world-wide hydrocarbon exploration and production geology and geophysics. He is familiar with most of the technologies and methods for accurate seismic interpretation, depth conversion, log correlation, mapping and well planning. He is a proven team player within integrated Petroleum Engineering teams, including leadership and mentoring of less experienced staff. He is and expert in block evaluation, basin studies, prospect generation, and Data Room evaluations, at large- or small-scale, in extensional and compressional tectonic regimes. He is and experirenced in terpretater with Petrel, LinkedIn, GeoTeric, Paleoscan, Kingdom, GeoQuest/Schlumberger/Charisma and Landmark. And of course as a hard core geophycisist he has an in-depth evaluation knowledge of gravity and magnetic data..

Dr. William Sassi

William joined Shell in 1986 as a research geologist in charge of production-related scientific & technical studies. He was involved in fractured reservoir projects (core analysis and fracture characterisations for several fields in Oman and North Sea, in the seal integrity studies (Nigeria, North Sea and Indonesia) and on industrial projects of production-induced ground subsidence above gas or hydrocarbon fields (Troll field for Norske Shell and the Groningen giant gas field for the NAM). In 1989 he moved to the Geology-Geochemistry-Geophysics Division in IFP, Rueil-Malmaison, France where he took part in many applied research projects for seismic interpretation and hydrocarbon exploration. Projects were at the frontier between geomechanics and structural geology, both developing and using sand-box physical experiments and numerical models (e.g. finite elements computer codes). William developed a structural-thermal-maturity computer program which became a tool for exploration of complex areas, mainly thrust belts petroleum provinces. His research help to improve numerical tools of forward modelling and palinspastic restoration for structural interpretation, linking basin modeling and petroleum system analyses. He designed the Thrustpack tool (Sassi et al., 2007; Deville & Sassi, 2006) for structural validation of seismic sections in fold and thrust belts. In 2006-2007 William took a sabbatical leave from IFP to join the teams of software developers and geologists of Midland Valley Exploration Ltd., Glasgow, Scotland. From 2009 to 2011, William was advisor at the French’s ministry of high education and research where he was advisor in charge of mineral resources and transport. From 2012 to 2018, involved in research projects for unconventional shale gas and shale oil reservoirs (IFPEN’s contribution to the Gash consortium, and 2012-2015 the EERA Shale Gas Joint Program for the European Commission), from 2013-2018, leading an integrated pluri-disciplinary research project on characterization of tight source rocks. William is member of the SFG and of AAPG since 1996, (contact for Europe of International Distinguish Lecturer Program Committee 2005-2015, and the Tuesday technical meetings of PSGD 2016-2018).

Dr. Gil Machado

Gil holds a degree in Geology and a Doctorate in Stratigraphy and Petroleum Geology. He has over 12 years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry, in exploration projects of Oman, Mozambique, Brazil, Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Gabon, Morocco, and other Atlantic basins. He is an advanced seismic interpreter, including sediment fairways identification, deep water sedimentation characterization, sequence stratigraphy and prospect generation and risking. He has worked extensively with well correlation, biostratigraphy, regional prospectivity studies and has managed teams and projects in multiple cultural environments. He has mentored and supervised B.Sc and M.Sc students, young professionals and taught several short courses and lectures on these subjects. He has worked at Petroleum Development Oman as a Stratigrapher where he was responsible for the Precambrian and Lower Paleozoic stratigraphy studies and for the scientific management of the palynology laboratory of the company. He followed multiple wells as operational stratigrapher providing real time advice to the well geologists for casing points, TD calls, etc. He also contributed to the biostratigraphic zonation review of the subsurface of Oman. He is affiliated with the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers, the PESGB and founder and member of the Portuguese Association of Geoscientists and Engineers.

Dr. Natalia Kukina

Natalia holds a Ph.D in geology and mineralogy science. She is internationally recognized as an energy expert with 30 years experience in worldwide hydrocarbon exploration and development. She has achieved a superior record of geological-geophysical success in the discovery of a several world-class oil and gas discoveries. She holds an associate professor position at the department of oil and gas affairs at Murmansk state Technical University and is a Geoscientist at the Research Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences. She has published about 70 scientific papers. Natalia has participated in the international marine Arctic expeditions and has been academic and professional instruction in geology and geophysics with the direction and management of high visibility, industry-funded international research program in petroleum geology, sedimentology, basin analysis and sequence stratigraphy.

Dr. Gary Mumaw

Gary is a Geoscientist-Geophysicist with over 35 years experience in various international operating, service and consultancy companies. He is an expert in qualitative and quantitative aspects of Geological and Geophysical assessment of both Conventional and Unconventional hydrocarbon resources including: 2-3D Seismic Interpretation: Time and Depth Mapping and Prospect Generation. Seismic AVO: Attribute Analyses and Reservoir Characterization. Gravy-Mag and 3D Gravity Gradiometry: Interpretation and Subsurface Integration. Tectonics, Structural Geology and Basin Analysis. Exploration and Development Geophysics. Prospect Evaluation and Exploration Risk Analysis. Independent Reserves and Resource Assessments.

Dr. Christopher Scotese

Christopher is an American geologist and paleogeographer. He received his PhD from the University of Chicago in 1985. He is the creator of the Paleomap Project, which aims to map Earth over the last billion years, and is credited with predicting Pangaea Ultima, a possible future supercontinent configuration. Professor Scotese retired from teaching at the University of Texas, Arlington, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences in 2013. He is now a Research Associate at the Field Museum of Natural History and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Northwestern University. He continues to collaborate with several research groups on topics concerning the history of the Earth System, but his main focus is a book entitled: "Earth History, the Evolution of the Earth System". He is the coauthor of more than 100 scientific publications, and his maps and animations have been used in numerous geological textbooks, scientific research papers, and are on display in museums worldwide.

Kushwant Singh

Kushwant is Geoscientist and Data Scientist with over 25 years of international operating and joint venture experience. he has proven track record of accomplishments in reserves and production assessment, using 4D and 3D seismic interpretation and dynamic and static model integration within the WRFM (Wells, Reservoir & Facilities Management) operating asset environment.

Dr. Tip Meckel

Tip is a senior research scientist investigating geologic carbon storage for the Bureau of Economic Geology at The University of Texas at Austin. During his 15 years with the Gulf Coast Carbon Center he has led research focusing on geologic characterization, structural geology, monitoring design, and pressure evolution for CO2 injections. He has been directly involved with many large-scale field demonstration projects funded through the DOE-NETL Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnerships. After early exposure during the FRIO tests east of Houston in 2006, he co-directed the research program for the SECARB CO2-EOR demonstration project in Cranfield Mississippi, and currently leads the research initiative to identify offshore sequestration potential in the Gulf of Mexico with focus on capacity assessment and high-resolution 3D marine seismic monitoring technologies. Tip works closely with offshore CCS developments in Japan and the North Sea. He was a contributor to the 2019 National Petroleum Council study on CCUS, and participated in the formation of the Society of Petroleum Engineer’s Storage Resource Management System (SRMS). Dr. Ramon Lopez Jimenez

Ramon is a senior geologist with 15 years of research and industry experience in sedimentology, ore deposits and hydrogeology. He provides consultancy for the oil and mining industry, running field trips in several countries of America and in Turkey, teaching online courses and working as innovation consultant for the Department of Defense of the USA at Inspiralia USA. He has expertise in collecting field data on a wide range of environments and converting it into multiple formats depending on the client and purpose: from technical reports to 3D models and videos filmed with drones.

Dr. Diego Vasquez Anzola

Diego has spent 18 years on diverse roles in Subsurface teams in a wide range of projects in 4 different continents. He is a strong subsurface technical leader and multiskilled geoscientist with an evident can-do attitude focused on distilling and delivering direct investment decisions. He is a subsurface specialist and pragmatic technical thinker who prioritizes End-to-End Integration of all available data and perspectives. Diego has worked on various high-profile industrial-scale CCS projects, making him one of the few geoscientists around the world with experience on screening, maturation, appraisal and development of CO2 storage resources to marketable volumes.

Dr. Ian Longley

Ian is a regional petroleum geologist with 30 years of experience, who has worked for Lasmo, Woodside, Shell and Oil Search in various locations around the planet in junior and executive exploration roles. He has specialised in the plate tectonic evolution, regional petroleum geology, play and prospect analysis and the hunt for new exploration opportunities in the region. He has published extensively on the regional petroleum geology. He is joint developer and majority owner of the Player ArcGIS play analysis software which is now used by 30+ international E&P exploration companies around the world. He lives in Perth. He also runs the training course on the Petroleum Geology of SE Asia.

Dr. Joachim Rheinhardt

Joachim is a highly experienced, widely recognized and passionate energy leader and geoscience professional with over 34 years of international industry experience, including for many years as Chief Exploration Geologist at Shell International. He brings a value-focused, end-to-end mindset, developed from a uniquely broad spectrum of technical and leadership roles held in exploration, appraisal, commercial, portfolio and strategy departments. Joachim has extensive and first-hand subsurface technical experience, gained from working in most key geological basins, settings and energy/hydrocarbon provinces around the world – underpinned by an excellent track record as a proven oil & gas finder and successful explorer in diversity of geological plays globally. His technical and operational exploration and appraisal experience spans the full spectrum from new play generation and opportunity development to play rejuvenation in mature heartlands and producing assets onshore, offshore and in deep water settings. He also brings strong inter-personal skills and over three decades experience of working, coaching and leading teams in cross-cultural, international, and multi-disciplinary business environments gained from a long list of assignments and engagements on virtually all continents of the world (excl. Antarctica!).

Dr. Keith Martin

Keith has over 30-year experience in prospect generation, seismic interpretation with Energy Africa (Tullow) Amoco (BP) and Repsol, in southern Africa, MENA, North Sea, SE Asia, Black Sea, Canada and Gulf of Mexico. He has been Involved in five oil and gas discoveries (South Africa, UK offshore, Black Sea), many new ventures analyses and multiple deals (Libya, Egypt, Canada, Indonesia etc.). He also maintained an academic profile in marine geology, tectonics and structural geology. He owns a B.Sc. Hons in Geology, Aberdeen University, Scotland and a Ph.D in geology and geophysics University of Cape Town 1984.

Judith Narváez

Judith received an M.Phil degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Imperial College of London in 2000 and has a bachelor's degree in computer engineering (1989). She has over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and 25 years in Reservoir and Simulation Engineering roles. She has participated in multiple large-scale integrated developments and smaller stand-alone projects for former PDVSA, ENI SPA and HESS Corporation. She has developed extensive expertise in conducting integrated characterisation and dynamic modelling of oil, gas, and gas condensate reservoirs for production forecasting, recovery optimisation and reserve determination by managing natural or more complicated depletion strategies in offshore developments across prolific basins in the North Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, the Caspian Sea, the Equatorial Guinea Sea, the Timor Sea, and the Maracaibo Lake; as well as onshore projects in South America. She has hands-on experience working in conjunction with geoscientists to better understand the internal fabric of sandstone and carbonate reservoirs impacting the behaviour of oil production flow, water and gas injection flow, and aquifer encroachment in wide different geological basins ranging from weakly confined deep water slope channel-levee systems to carbonate platform limestones. She has authored and co-authored several papers for the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the European Association of Geologists and Engineers (EAGE), and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG). Since 2020, Judith is the founder and managing director of Strados International Limited.

Dr. Tony Loy

Tony began his career with Exploration Logging in 1979. Tony has a Ph.D. and M.Sc in palynology from the University of Sheffield in 1983. He worked in the Industrial Palynology Unit until 1997. He then formed his own consultancy company and worked in Shell Expro Stratigraphic Data Manager until 2003, after which he went on to consult for several other companies such Dana Petroleum and PDVSA as a stratigrapher, palynologist, wellsite geologist and geological trainer. In 2014 he joined the consultancy company Merlin Energy Resources Ltd. as a senior stratigrapher / geologist where he worked with companies such as Azinor, MOL and Savannah Petroleum, in addition to being a major contributor to the recently published Standard Stratigraphic Nomenclature of Offshore Ireland. Tony has experience of lecturing to both undergraduates and M.Sc. students while at Sheffield University, in addition to supervising several Ph.D. students. He has also run various geological training courses for HOT Engineering and PDVSA and is currently preparing several field guides for various regions within the UK.

Piero Castellano

Piero is a geoscientist with 30 years’ experience in oil and gas exploration/development in major oil companies: ENI, Gaz-De-France, ENGIE, Neptune Energy. Throughout these decades he was multi-disciplinary G&G team leader and project leader, peer review team leader, company’s key expert, chief geologist and Technical Authority for exploration geology. Piero is also a teacher, a mentor and he coaches young geoscientists, via pedagogical-educational courses and training-on-the-job activity, leading teams by doing, with technical expertise gained over the years. His core technical background is 2D/3D seismic/structural interpretation and mapping, prospect generation and assessment, from regional play evaluation to target identification, ranking, Play Risk analysis, HIIP volumes evaluation, well location and proposal. He got a strong experience in New Venture analysis and regional or block size assessments for licensing rounds. Piero worked in several Countries, regions and basins throughout the world: North Sea (UK, Norway, Hollande, Germany), offshore Poland, Italy, France, Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Malta, Azerbaijan, Mauritania, Ivory Coast, Qatar, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, Brazil.

Dr. Mamery Doukoure

Mamery holds a doctorate in Marine Geology of Earth Sciences and mineral Resources (STRM), from Felix Houphouet Boigny University inAbidjan/ Ivory Coast. He is teaching organic geochemistry at the Man University/ Côte d’Ivoire. He is also a Palynologist/geochemist in the Rock Analysis Service of the Geochemistry Department from the Direction of the Analysis and Research Center (DCAR-PETROCI/HOLDING).

Collins Ugwuozor

Collins is a Nannofossil Biostratigrapher and Data Scientist. He was the lead Nannofossil biostratigrapher at Global Energy Company (GEC) Limited. He has BSc. in Geology from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka in 2006 and MSc. in Applied Geophysics from the University of Lagos Nigeria. During his 13 years with GEC Energy Limited, he was in charge of research in nannofossil biostratigraphy, nannofossil analysis and interpretation, well-site biostratigraphy as well as training of interns. Most of his research and analyses aided in the age dating of sediments, multiple wells correlation, stratigraphic monitoring, refining of Cenozoic nannofossil zones in the Niger Delta basin, etc. He has also run several Data Science and Machine Learning programs with World Quant University. He is a member of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE)
